Il est des artistes dont le seul nom résume un genre musical tout entier et Patrick Molard en fait partie. Il est reconnu au niveau mondial dans l’univers du « Ceòl Mòr » (traduire « Grande Musique »), qu’il étudie depuis une quarantaine d’années. Cette Grande Musique des hautes terres d’Écosse porte en elle la mémoire d’un monde. Plus qu’un genre musical, c’est une forme de poésie, avec des notes plutôt que des mots, qui dépeint l’univers des anciens clans. Light and Shade. Ombre et Lumière.
Depuis des siècles, ces chefs d’oeuvre d’écriture sont interprétés par la cornemuse et uniquement cet instrument. Patrick Molard présente aujourd’hui une création inédite dans l’histoire de cette musique, il constitue un orchestre à la mesure du projet. D’évidence son frère Jacky (violon) qui signe les arrangements, Hélène Labarrière (contrebasse), Yannick Jory (saxophone), Simon Goubert (batterie) et Eric Daniel (guitare). D’un répertoire choisi, issu des 17ème et 18ème s., l’orchestre entier – sorte de mouton à cinq pattes – fait gronder le pibroc’h dans une nouvelle musique. Le télescopage est sonique et imaginaire.

This brand new creation associates pibroch traditional/classical music, jazzmen and celtic famous players like two Molard brothers. Usually played at bagpipe, Pibroch music or Ceol Mor, is arranged for the special band, passed on the canntaireach – old transmission system based on a gaelic singing. Patrick Molard « Ceol Mor » poetic project is an historical, musical and geographical link from past to present.
There are artists whose name is a summary of a whole musical genre and Patrick Molard is one of those. He has built over the years a world reputation as a master of Ceol Mor or Pibroch which he has been studying for the past forty years. On the other hand, he is one of the main actors of the first revival of Celtic music as shows his impressive discography.
Ceol Mor or Piobaireachd (Pibroch) is a musical genre from the Highlands of Scotland, originally played only on the Great Highland Bagpipe.
This hieratic instrument, the best known in the family of bagpipes, carries in itself the memory of a lost world and has been described as « an embodied legendary epic ».
Ceol Mor (the great music) is not only music, but lines of poetry with notes instead of words, depicting the world and surroundings of the ancient clans. An ancestral form of composition which finds an echo in contemporary repetitive and minimalist music.
